How this differs from existing on-line programs
Buying into online leadership programmes such as those run by the big business schools has limited use. Most business school leadership programmes are heavy on theory, academic-based and inflexible.
“The latest figures show that completion rates for online courseware is less than 24%!”
– Athena Online
Face-to-face in-house or off-site development programs, seminars and gatherings are expensive, particularly if bringing together a global community of leaders and future leaders. Increasingly, organizations are turning to the intranet or internet for a more cost-effective and time-effective way of developing people, one that can be woven into the working day and that is stimulating and practical.
The need for leadership
“60% of CEOs report that their employees lack the right leadership qualities to manage growth”
– IBM’s Global CEO Survey
"I am completely convinced that most organisations today lack the leadership they need. And the shortfall is often large. I'm not talking about a deficit of 10%, but of 200%, 400%, or more in positions up and down the hierarchy,"
- John P. Kotter, Professor of Leadership at Harvard Business School
“Nine out of ten employees report no sign of inspiration in their leaders; not a jot, not a glimmer.”
- Seven Secrets of Inspired Leaders, based on the UK government’s Department of Trade and Industry survey into inspirational leadership
